Case Study: SMARTCORE
Brand Identity | Logo Design | Print Design
Project Overview:
In 2018, as part of my senior graphic design project at Seton Hill University, I was tasked with identifying a gap within a provided topic and developing a brand to address a specific problem within that space. My chosen topic was Smart Home Technology. Through extensive research and analysis, I uncovered a common pain point among consumers: the complexity and fragmentation that comes with managing multiple smart devices across different platforms. This insight led to the creation of SMARTCORE, a unified platform designed to simplify and streamline the smart home experience by offering a single, easy-to-use app that seamlessly integrates all connected devices.
Problem Identified:
Despite the growing number of smart home technology products, there was a clear gap in the market for a solution that allowed consumers to manage all their devices from one central platform. The complexity of juggling multiple apps and systems often resulted in confusion and frustration.
Solution:
SMARTCORE is a brand that integrates a variety of smart devices into a single, cohesive application. With an intuitive, user-friendly interface, SMARTCORE enables users—whether tech-savvy or new to smart home technology—to easily control and manage their connected devices in one place.
Design Process, Role, and Approach:
Market Research & Problem Identification:
I analyzed the smart home technology market and identified that many existing solutions required separate platforms for controlling different devices, causing confusion for less tech-savvy users. This gap revealed an opportunity for a unified, simplified solution.
Brand Creation:
I developed the SMARTCORE brand, ensuring it conveyed both technological innovation and ease of use. The design of the logo featured modern, geometric shapes to symbolize connectivity and integration, while the typography was bold and simple, reflecting the brand’s core values of clarity and simplicity.
UI/UX Design:
I designed the SMARTCORE mobile app with a minimalistic approach, prioritizing accessibility and user-friendliness. The goal was to create an intuitive interface that allowed users to manage their smart devices with minimal steps and maximum efficiency.
Marketing Materials & Visual Identity:
I created various marketing materials such as brochures, posters, and social media content. The color palette of indigo and white was chosen to convey trust and simplicity, while modern fonts and cohesive design elements ensured a sleek and unified visual identity across all platforms.
Brand Guidelines:
I also developed a brand guidelines to maintain consistency across all assets, ensuring that every visual element—whether digital or physical—reinforced the brand’s identity.
Conclusion:
SMARTCORE represents my ability to identify a real-world problem in a competitive market and develop a creative solution through design. By focusing on simplicity, accessibility, and user experience, I was able to create a brand and app that made smart home technology more accessible to a broader audience.
